हृद्  n.  n. ( optionally substituted for हृदय in the weak cases i.e. in all except the first five inflexions; thought to be connected with श्रद् q.v.) the heart (as the seat of feelings and emotions), soul, mind (as seat of thought and intellectual operations; हृद्य् अवेदिन्, ‘ having no capacity of knowledge in the heart or mind’, said of animals), breast, chest, stomach, interior ( also in older language, ‘ interior of the body’), [RV.]; &c.

हृद् [hṛd]  n. n. ( this word has no forms for the first five inflections, and is optionally substituted for हृदय after acc. dual)
   The mind, heart; त्यक्तं गृहाद्यपि मया भवताप- शान्त्यै नासीदसौ हृतहृदो मम मायया ते Bhagavaccharaṇa [S.15.]
   The chest, bosom, breast; इमां हृदि व्यायतपातमक्षिणोत् [Ku.5.54.]
   The soul.
   The interior or essence of anything. -Comp.
-आमयः    sickness of heart.- आवर्तः a lock or curl of hair on a horse's chest.
-उत्क्लेदः, -उत्क्लेशः    nausea.
-कम्पः    tremor of the heart, palpitation.
