भास् 1.cl. 1. Ā. ([Dhātup. xvi, 23] ) भासते (in older language also P. भा॑सति, [AV.] &c.; p. भा॑सत्, [RV.] ; pf. बभासे, [MBh.] ; aor. अभासिष्टGr. ; fut. भासिष्यते, भासिता, ib.), to shine, be bright, [RV.] &c. &c.; to appear (‘as’ or ‘like’ nom. or instr. of an abstract noun), occur to the mind, be conceived or imagined, become clear or evident, [Sāh.] ; [Vedântas.] &c.: Caus. भासयति, °ते (aor. अबभासत् and अबीभसत्, [Pāṇ. 7-4, 3] ), to make shine, illuminate, [Up.] ; [MBh.] &c. ; to show, make evident, cause to appear (‘by way of.’ instr. of an abstract noun), [Bhaṭṭ.] ; [Cat.] Desid. बिभासिषतेGr. : Intens. बाभास्यते, बाभास्ति, ib.
