गार्हपत्य

गार्हपत्य  m. mfn. with अग्नी, or m. ([Pāṇ. 4-4, 90] ) the householder's fire (received from his father and transmitted to his descendants, one of the three sacred fires, being that from which sacrificial fires are lighted, [RTL. 364] ), [AV.] ; [VS.] ; [ŚBr.] &c.
गार्हपत्य  mn. mn. = -स्थान, [ŚBr. vii, 1, 2, 12] ; KātyŚr. xvii, 1, 3
गार्हपत्य  m. m. pl.N. of a class of manes, [MBh. ii, 462]
गार्हपत्य  n. n. the government of a family, position of a householder, household, [RV. i, 15, 12; vi, 15, 19; x, 85, 27 and 36.]

गार्हपत्य     

गार्हपत्यः [gārhapatyḥ]   [गृहपतिना नित्यं संयुक्तः, संज्ञायां ञ्य]
One of the three sacred fires perpetually maintained by a householder, which he receives from his father and transmits to his descendants, and from which fires for sacrificial purposes are lighted; अथ हैनं गार्हपत्योऽनु- शशास [Ch. Up.4.11.1;] cf. [Ms.2.231.]
The place where this sacred fire is kept.
-त्यम्   The government of a family; position and dignity of a householder; गार्हपत्येन सन्त्य ऋतुना यज्ञनीरसि [Rv.1.15.12.] -Comp.
-न्यायः   A rule of interpretation according to which a direct statement (श्रुति) is stronger than an indirect one (लिङ्ग). This rule is discussed and established by जैमिनि and शबर at [MS.3.2.3] and 4.
