   roaming, wandering about as a religious mendicant; अतश्च प्रव्रज्या- सुलभसमयाचारविमुखः । प्रसक्तस्ते यत्नः ... [Māl.4.6.]
   The order of a religious mendicant, a mendicant's life, the fourth (or भिक्षु) order in the riligious life of a Brāhmaṇa; प्रव्रज्यां कल्पवृक्षा इवाश्रिताः [Ku.6.6.] (where Malli. says प्रव्रज्या means the वानप्रस्थ or third order). -Comp.
-अवसितः   a religious mendicant who renounces his order; प्रव्रज्यावसिता यत्र त्रयो वर्णा द्विजोत्तमाः । निर्वासं कारयेद् विप्रं दासत्वं क्षत्रवैश्ययोः ॥ Kātyāyana.
