प्रत्यवाय

   sinfulness or criminality. 2 badness, hurtfulness, harm, objectionable ground in general;--used of things or actions of which by the use or the commission sin is contracted. hence used freely in the sense of matter, moment, importance, consequence; as असें केल्यानें काय प्र0; शंभर आंबे आण म्हणून सांगितलें परंतु एक दोन अधिक उणे असले म्हणजे प्र0 नाहीं. In these latter senses it requires neg. con.

प्रत्यवायः [pratyavāyḥ]   1 decrease, diminution.
   An obstacle, impediment; danger; कुमारेण बहुप्रत्यवायेऽस्मिन् प्रदेशे कुतूहलिना न स्थातव्यम् [Nāg.4;] [U.1.8.]
   A contrary or opposite course, contrariety; उत्तमानुत्तमान् गच्छन् हीनान् हीनांश्च वर्जयन् । ब्राह्मणः श्रेष्ठतामेति प्रत्यवायेन शूद्रताम् ॥ [Ms.4.245.]
   A sin, an offence, sinfulness; अनुत्पत्तिं तथा चान्ये प्रत्यवायस्य मन्वते Jābāli; नेहाभिक्रमनाशोऽस्ति प्रत्यवायो न विद्यते [Bg.2.4]
   disappointment.
   disappearance of an existing thing.
   non-production of what does not exist.
