स्वर्   1. (= √ सुर्) cl. 10. P.स्वरयति, to find fault, blame, censure, [Dhātup. xxxv, 11.]

स्वर्  n. 4.ind. (in यजुर्-वेद also सु॑वर्) (used in वेद as nom.acc.loc., or gen., in [Naiṣ. vi, 99] also as abl.; from the weak base सू॑र् the [RV.] forms the gen.सू॑रस् and the dat.सूरे॑ [iv, 3, 8]), the sun, sunshine, light, lustre, [RV.] ; [AV.] ; [VS.]
दिव्   bright space or sky, heaven (as distinguished from , which is regarded as the vault above it; often ‘heaven’ as a paradise and as the abode of the gods and the Blest, in [AV.] also of the असुरs; स्वः प्रयातः, ‘gone to heaven’ i.e. ‘departed this life’), [RV.] &c. &c.
लोक   the space above the sun or between the sun and the polar star, the region of the planets and constellations (regarded as the 3rd of the 7 worlds [see ] and the 3rd of the three व्याहृतिs [i.e.भु॑र् भु॑वः स्व॑]; स्वर् is pronounced after ओम् and before the गायत्री by every Brāhman on beginning his daily prayers), [Mn.] ; [MBh.] &c.

Heaven, paradise; as in स्वर्लोक, स्वर्वेश्या, स्वर्भानुः, &c.; त्वं कर्मणां मङ्गलमङ्गलानां कर्तुः स्म लोकं तनुषे स्वः परं वा [Bhāg.4.6.45.]

1. Heaven, paradise, the residence of INDRA and the celestials, (considered as the temporary abode of the virtuous after death.)
2. Sky, ether.
3. Splendour, beauty.
4. One of the divisions of the universe, the space between the sun and the polar star and region of the planets and constellations; in this sense, this word is one of the three mystical words, to be repeated daily at the morning ceremonies, &c., with the holy Gāyatri.
E. स्वृ to sound, to be in pain, विच् aff., and the vowel changed.
