Liberal, munificent.
Proud, haughty, proud of (in comp.); शौटीर- शूरसदृशमनीकजनसंसदि [Mb.5.162.31;] विक्रमशौटीरः 3.252.21.
रः A hero, champion.
A proud man.
An ascetic, one who has given up wordly pursuits; [Mb. 12.83.44.] (com. शौटीरः प्रगल्भः ।).
An upstart.

 m.  (-रः)
1. A hero.
2. An ascetic, one who abandons the world.
3. A proud or haughty man, but of low tribe or occupation, an upstart.
E. शौट् to be proud, and इरन् Unādi aff.; also as derived from शौड the same, शौडीर; also the short vowel being substituted for the diphthong, शुटीर .
