VĪRĀ   The wife of the Agni (fire) named Bharadvāja, the son of Śaṁyu. The Agni Vīra was the son of this Vīrā. [M.B. Vana Parva, Chapter 219, Stanza 9] .
VĪRĀ II   A river of India, very famous in the Purāṇas. [Mahābhārata, Bhīṣma Parva, Chapter 9, Stanza 22] .
VĪRĀ III   The wife of King Karandhama. She was the mother of Avikṣit. Once, when serpents began to do harm to all the living and non-living things in the world, Vīrā approached her grandson Marutta and advised him to conduct a serpent-sacrifice. Marutta began the sacrifice. The serpents were terrified and sought protection from the wife of Avikṣit. She being kind-hearted, made her husband intervene and stop the sacrifice. [Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa, Chapter 126] .

वीरा n.  एक राजस्त्री, जो वीर्यचंद्र की कन्या, करंधम राजा की पत्नी, एवं अविक्षित् राजा की माता थी [मार्क. ११९.२] । एक बार सर्पो ने समस्त सृष्टि को अत्यंत त्रस्त किया था, जिस कारण इसने अपने पौत्र मरुत्त के द्वारा सर्पसंहार प्रारंभ किया। पश्र्चात् सारे सर्प इसकी स्नुषा अविक्षित्पत्नी वैशालित्नी की शरण में गये, जिसने अपने पति अविक्षित् के द्वारा सर्वसत्र बन्द करवाया [मार्क. १२६] ।
वीरा II. n.  शंयुपुत्र भरद्वाज नामक अग्नि की पत्नी। इसके पुत्र का नाम वीर था [म. व. २०९.१०] ।
