यत  mfn. bmfn. restrained, held in, held forth, kept down or limited, subdued, governed, controlled &c., [RV.] &c. &c. (cf.comp. below)
यत  n. n. restraint (?) See यतं-कर॑

Striving, diligent; तांश्चानुसंचार्य ततः कृतार्थाः पतन्ति विप्रेषु यतेषु भूयः [Mb.12.31.111.]
Limited, moderate; see यम्.
-तम्   The spurring of an elephant by means of the rider's feet; Mātanga L. -Comp.
-आत्मन् a.  a. governing oneself, self-restrained, curbing the senses; (तस्मै) यतात्मने रोचयितुं यतस्व [Ku.3.16;1.54.]
-आहार a.  a. moderate or temperate in eating, abstemious. -इन्द्रियa. one who has restrained his senses or subdued his passions, pure, chaste.
-गिर् a.  a. silent.
-चित्त, -मनस्, -मानस a.  a. subdued in mind.
-मैथुन a.  a. abstaining from sexual intercourse.
-वाच् a.  a. restraining one's speech, observing silence, reticent; see वाग्यत.
-व्रत   a.
observing vows; इन्द्रोऽन्यः सर्वदेवानां भवेदिति यतव्रताः [Mb.1.31.] 13
keeping to one's engagements or promised observances.
