पूर्व—मीमांसा  f.  f. ‘inquiry into or interpretation of the first or मन्त्र portion of the वेद’, N. of the system of philosophy attributed to जैमिनि (as opp. to उत्तर-म्°, which is an inquiry into the later or उपनिषद् portion; the पूर्व-म्° is generally called थे M°, and in interpreting the Vedic text discusses the doctrine of the eternity of sound identified with ब्रह्म, [IW. 98 &c.])
