   1. A name of the goddess parvati or durga.
   2. light, splendor.
   3. fame, reputation.
   4. turmeric.
   5. flax, (Linum utilatissimum.) 6. quiet, tranquillity.
   E. particle of calling, and मा prohibition; i. e. “Practise not austerities,” the exclamation addressd to durga by her mother: in the other, senses it may be derived from मा to measure, or मा lustre.
