हस्तिन् n.  (सो. पुरू.) एक सुविख्यात पूरुवंशीय राजा, जो भागवत, विष्णु एवं मत्स्य के अनुसार बृहत्क्षत्र राजा का, एवं वायु के अनुसार सुहोत्र राजा का पुत्र था [भा. ९.२१.२०-२१] ; [वायु. ९९.१६५] । महाभारत में इसे सुहोत्र एवं जयंती का पुत्र कहा गया है, एवं इसकी पत्‍नी का नाम त्रैगर्ती यशोदा (यशोधरा) दिया गया है, जिससे इसे विकुंठन नामक पुत्र उत्पन्न हुआ था [म. आ. ९०.३६] । इसीने ही हस्तिनापुर नगर को नया वैभव प्राप्त करा दिया, जिस कारण उस नगर को ‘हस्तिनापुर’ नाम प्राप्त हुआ।
हस्तिन् II. n.  (सो. कुरु.) धृतराष्ट्र (प्रथम) राजा का एक पुत्र ।

हस्तिन्  m.  ( -स्ती) An elephant, (four kinds of elephants are enumerated, viz:-- भद्र, मन्द, मृग and मिश्र.)

2. A female; one of the four kinds into which they are classed, and described as of low stature, curpulent habits, curly hair, dark complexion, libidinous appetite, thick lips, thick hips, thick fingers, large breasts and furious passions.
