स्रोतस् [srōtas]  n. n. [स्रु-तसि]
   (a) A stream, current, flow or course of water; पुरा यत्र स्रोतः पुलिनमधुना तत्र सरिताम् [U.2.27;] [Ms.3.163.] (b) A torrent, rapid stream; नदत्याकाशगङ्गायाः स्रोतस्युद्दामदिग्गजे [R.1.78;] स्रोतसेवोह्यमानस्य प्रतीपतरणं हि तत् [V.2.5.]
   A stream, river (in general); स्रोतसामस्मि जाह्नवी [Bg.1.31.]
   A wave.
   Water.
   The canal of nutriment in the body.
   An organ of sense; निगृह्य सर्वस्रोतांसि Rām.; तद्वन्न रिक्तमतयो यतयोऽपि रुद्धस्रोतोगणास्तमरणं भज वासुदेवम् [Bhāg.4.22.39.]
   The trunk of an elephant.

-रन्ध्रम्   an aperture of the proboscis or trunk of an elephant, a nostril; स्रोतोरन्ध्रध्वनित- सुभगं दन्तिभिः पीयमानः [Me.44] (see Malli. thereon); (written श्रोतोरन्ध्र also, q. v.).

    E. स्नु- तसि aff.; or स्नु to flow, Unādi aff. असुन्, and तुट् augment; also with a final vowel स्रोत, and palatial sibilant श्रोतस् .
