ओषधि

ओष-धि  f. f. (etym. doubtful; probably fr.ओष above, ‘light-containing’ See, [ŚBr. ii, 2, 4, 5] ; [Nir. ix, 27] ) a herb, plant, simple, esp. any medicinal herb, [RV.] ; [AV.] ; [ŚBr.] ; [MBh.] &c.

an annual plant or herb (which dies after becoming ripe), [Mn. i, 46, &c.] ; [Suśr. i, 4, 16; 18] ; [Yājñ.] &c.
a remedy in general, [Suśr. i, 4, 15.]

ओषधि     

ओषधिः [ōṣadhiḥ] धी [dhī]   धी f. [ओषः पाको धीयते अत्र-धा-कि [Tv.] ]
A herb, plant (in general); ओषध्यः फलपाकान्ताः [Ms.1.46;] cf. संजीवन˚.
A medicinal plant or drug.
An annual plant or herb which dies after becoming ripe.-Comp.
-ईशः, -गर्भः, -नाथः   the moon (as presiding over and feeding plants); cf. पुष्णामि चौषधीः सर्वाः सोमो भूत्वा रसात्मकः [Bg.15.13;] [R.2.73;] [Ku.7.1;] [Ś.4.2.] -ज a. produced from plants. (-जः) fire; ज्वलयतौषधिजेन कृशानना [Ki.5.14.]
