पूतन

पूतन  m. m. a partic. class of demons or spirits (also = वेताल), [Mālatīm.] ; [Bālar.] ; [SaddhP.]

पूतन     

पूतनः [pūtanḥ]   A dead body in a cemetery.
ना N. of a female demon who, while attempting to kill Kṛiṣṇa, when but an infant, was herself crushed by him.
A demoness, or Rākṣasī in general; मा पूतनात्वमुपगाः शिवतातिरेधि [Māl.9.5.]
Terminalia chebula (हरीतकी); 'पूतना राक्षसीभेदे हरीतक्यां च पूतना' Viśva. -Comp.
-अरिः, -सूदनः, -हन्  m. m. epithets of Kṛiṣṇa.
