To move, go, get on, walk, march, travel. Ex. मी दिवसास पंधरा कोस चालतों. 2 To proceed or make progress; to be in process or under performance. Ex. त्या वकिलाचे हाता- मध्यें माझें काम यथायोग्य चालतें; कोश चालला, घर चाललें &c. 3 To flow, pass, have a course--days, life: to continue on; to pass through successive ages--an estate, a fashion. Ex. ही माझी वृत्ति पांचशें वर्षें चालली. 4 To have effect, influence, prevalence. Ex. त्या मनुष्याचें कोठेंही चालत नाहीं. 5 To have currency; to be received, suffered, permitted--a coin, a tale, a statement, a course of conduct. Ex. हें नाणें ही गोष्ट तुझी चेष्टा त्याची उनाडकी एथें चालणार नाहीं. 6 To demean or conduct one's self; to behave. Ex. गुरु जसें सांग- तात तसें चालावें. 7 To pass with; to serve, satisfy, content. Ex. ओलें कोरडें जसें मिळेल तसें मला चालेल. 8 To act, work, be in action--a machine &c. 9 To walk or move with a particular air, gait, pace. 10 To suit, serve, answer, do; to be adapted or adequate to a purpose. 11 The applications of this verb are manifold; but of farther particularity the tediousness might be thought to overbalance the advantage. Be it borne in mind that its general import is progression or motion; and its slighter diversifications of sense in popular phraseology will give no perplexity. चालता घेणें To let pass; to make shift with. 2 To proceed; to go on. चालून जाणें To fall upon; to attack.
