	aṣṭauvivāha m pl S The eight forms or modes of Marriage: viz. ब्राह्म-गांधर्व-राक्षस-दैव-आर्ष-प्राजा- पत्य-शुल्क-पैशाच-विवाह. Vide in loc. गांधर्वविवाह is further termed प्रीतिविवाह or प्रत्युद्वाह; & शुल्क- विवाह gets the opprobrious name आसुरविवाह. These may be briefly described--ब्राह्म0 सालंकार कन्यादान, गां0 उभयतांच्या अनुमतानें, रा0 जबरीनें कन्या हरून, दै0 कर्मांग कन्यादान करून, आ0 गाय बैल घेऊन कन्यार्पण, प्रा0 प्रजोत्पादनार्थ कन्यार्पण, शु0 मोल देऊन कन्या घेऊन करणें, पै0 कन्या चोरून नेऊन करणें, but they will all appear explained in their order.
