A Muhammadan era introduced when its 745th year corresponded with the 745th year of the Hijra, or the 1344th year Christian; commencing therefore with 599 A. D. or 521 of the Shálivahana era. This year begins about 5th of June, at the Sun's entrance into the lunar asterism मृग or मृगशीर्ष. It is otherwise called अरबीसाल and मृगसाल. The rule framed for the reduction into correspondence of the several eras is--

 पु. एक मुसलमानी शक . हा इसवी सन ५९९ किंवा शालिवाहन शक ५२१ या वर्षी सुरू झाला . हा मृगनक्षत्र लागतें तेव्हां ( बहुधा ६ जून ) सुरू होतो , म्हणून यास मृगसाल किंवा अरबीसाल म्हणतात . यामध्यें ९ मिळविले म्हणजे फसली साल येतें . [ अर . शुहूर = महिने ]
