is of extensive application; but as it is not peculiar to the Maráṭhá people, but common with them to the vulgar of most nations, it need not be noticed further. It is noticed even in this slight manner solely because it might be thought that in the case of mere Maráṭhí words accuracy between the mode of pronouncing with इ and the mode of pronouncing with वि could not, with any positiveness, be determined. Accordingly the mispronunciations and mis-spellings of विश्वर for ईश्वर, विच्छा for इच्छा, and, vice versa, of इचार for विचार, इघ्न for विघ्न, and a thousand others, being plain corruptions, by the unlearned, of Sanskrit words thoroughly established and generally current in the language, are unnoticed altogether.
