A phrase originating in a certain fraudulent but foolish act of a betelnut dealer--an act by which, designing to overreach his customer, and to pass off upon him रोंठा for the good betelnut which he had purchased and paid for, he outwitted himself, and forced upon him the रोंठा additionally to the betelnut of good quality. Used accordingly where a man, by the very act by which he designs ruin or injury to another, ruins or injures himself; "digging a pit or spreading a snare for one's neighbor and falling into it one's self." Used also to express Waste, profusion, wild prodigality, overwhelming exuberance &c.
