A duty, virtue, or peculiar business of a योगी. Ten are particularized; viz. अहिंसा, सत्य, अस्तेय, ब्रह्मचर्य, अपरिग्रह. These five are named यम. Then शौच, संतोष, तप, स्वाध्याय, ईश्वर- प्रणिधान. These five are named नियम. Another enumeration gives अहिंसा, सत्य, अक्रोध, त्याग, शांति, अपैशुन, दया, अलोभ, मार्दव, लज्जा. Another includes दम, क्षम, अचापल्य, तेज, तितिक्षा &c. These discrepancies matter little. All the duties and virtues, understood with some qualification, would adorn, not the योगी, but the Christian or the man; and we may term them, as some Panḍits do term them, मनुष्यधर्म.
