to snap at ( gen.), [RV. x, 86, 4] :

Caus. जम्भ॑यति ( p. °यत्) to crush, destroy, [RV.]; [AV.]; [VS. xvi, 5] :

Intens. जञ्जभ्य॑ते (and °भीति, [Pāṇ. 7-4, 86]; p. भ्य॑मान [ [TS. ii, 5, 2, 4]; [Nyāyam.]; [Jaim.] Sch.], °भान [ [Kauś. 114]], °भत् [ [ŚāṅkhŚr. iv, 20, 1]]) opening the jaws wide, snapping at (implying blame, [Pāṇ. 3-1, 24]) cf. अभि- and √ ज्रिम्भ्.
जभ्    2. or जम्भ् cl. 1. जभति or जम्भ्° Ā. ( [Vop.]) जभते ( aor. अजम्भिष्ट), v.l. for √ यभ् ( [Dhātup. xxiii, 11]) to know carnally, [BhP. iii, 20, 26] ( inf. जभितुम् v.l. यभ्°).
