इषि  f.  f. ( only dat. sing. इष॑ये, vi, 52, 15, and"> [RV. vi, 52, 15, and] nom. pl. इष॑यस्, [SV. i, 6, 2, 2, 2]) = इष्5 q.v.

इषि [iṣi] a.  a. [इष्-कि] wishing, desiring.
इषि [iṣi] षी [ṣī] का [kā]   (षी) का [इष् गत्यादौ क्वुन् अत इत्वम्]
    reed, rush, stalk of grass; कुशकाशशरेषिकाः Rām.; Kaṭh.2.6.17. ˚अस्त्रम् [R.12.23.]
   An arrow.
   A sort of sugar- cane; Saccharum Spontaneum.
   A small stick of wood or iron used to see whether gold in a crucible is melted or not.
   A brush.
   The eye- ball of an elephant.
   A thorny plant; संनिकर्षादिषीकाभिर्मोचितः परमाद्भयात् [Rām.2.8.3.] -Comp.
-तूलम्    also इषीकतूलम् the point or upper part of a reed; इष्टकेषीकामालानां चिततूलभारिषु [P.VI.3.35;] यथेषीकातूलग्नौ प्रोतम् [Ch. Up.5.24.3.]
