भा [bhā]   2 P. (भाति, भात; caus. भापयति-ते; desid. बिभासति)
   To shine, be bright or splendid, be luminous; पङ्कैर्विना सरो भाति सदः खलजनैर्विना । कटुवर्णैर्विना काव्यं मानसं विषयैर्विना [Bv.1.116;] समतीत्य भाति जगती जगती [Ki.5.2;] [R.3.18;] भाति श्रीरमणावतारदशकं बाले भवत्याः स्तने Udb.
   To seem, appear; बुभुक्षितं न प्रति भाति किंचित् [Mbh.]
   To be, exist.
   To be pleased.
   To show oneself.
   To blow; [the following verse gives different meanings of the verb;
-बभौ मरुत्वान् विकृतः स-मुद्रो   (to shine) बभौ मरुत्वान् विकृतः स-मुद्रः । (to be pleased)
-बभौ मरुत्वान् विकृतः समुद्रो   (to be) बभौ मरुत्वान् विकृतः स मुद्रः ॥ (to blow). [Bk.1.19] ].

   Light, splendour, lustre, beauty; तत्र ताराधिपस्याभा ताराणां भा तथैव च । तयोराभरणाभा च ज्वलिता द्यामभासयत् ॥ [Rām.6.75.51;] तावद् भा भारवेर्भाति यावन्माघस्य नोदयः Udb.
   A shadow, reflection.
