AJA I   A king of the Solar dynasty.
1) Genealogy.
From Viṣṇu were descended in order: Brahmā, Marīci- Kaśyapa-Vivasvān- Vaivasvata-Ikṣvāku- Vikukṣi-Saśāda-Purañjaya- Kukutstha-Anenas- Pṛthulāśvā-Prasenajit-Yuvanāśva- Mandhātā-Purukutsa-Trasadasyu- Anaraṇya-Aryaśva- Vasumanas- Sudhanvā-Traiyāruṇa- Satyavrata-Triśaṅku-Hariścandra-Rohitāśva-Harita- Cuñcu-Sudeva-Bharuka- Bāhuka-Sagara-Asamañjas-Aṁśumān-Dilīpa- Bhagīratha-Śrutanābha-Sindhudvīpa-Ayutāyus- Ṛtuparṇa-Sarvakāma-Sudāsana-Mitrasakha- Kalmāṣapāda-Aśmaka-Mūlaka-Dilīpa- Dīrghabāhu- Raghu-Aja-Aja's son Daśaratha-Daśaratha's son, Śrī Rāma. M.B., Anuśāsana Parva, Chapter 115, Verse 75 says that Aja never used to take meat.
AJA II   Among the different kinds of Ṛṣis mentioned by Yudhiṣṭhira, we find a class of Ṛṣis called Ajas. [M.B., Śānti Parva, Chapter 26] . These Ajas had attained Heaven by Svādhyāya (self discipline) alone.
AJA III   King Jahnu had a son named Aja. Uśika was the son of this Aja. King Uśika prayed to Indra for a son. Indra himself was born as the son of Uśika assuming the name Gādhi. Satyavatī was born as the daughter of Gādhi. She was married to Ṛcīka. Paraśurāma's father, Jamadagni was the son of Ṛcīka. [M.B., Śānti Parva, Chapter 49] .
AJA IV   By the grace of Śiva Surabhī was able to purify herself by penance. She then gave birth to Aja, Ekapāt, Ahirbudhnya, Tvaṣṭā and Rudra. [Agni Purāṇa, Chapter 18] .
AJA V   In the first Manvantara Svāyambhuva, in the second Manvantara Svārociṣa and in the third Manvantara Uttama, were Manus. To the third Manu, Uttama, were born as sons Aja, Paraśu, Dīpta and others. [Viṣṇu Purāṇa, Part 3, Chapter 1] . Besides the above, the term Aja has been used to mean Sūrya, Śiva, Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Bīja (seed).

प्राचीन चरित्रकोश

अज n.  (सू.इ.) राजा रघु का पुत्र तथा दशरथ का पिता । पद्मपुराण में रघु का पौत्र तथा दिलीप द्वितीय का पुत्र [पद्म.८] । अजा अर्थात् बकरी पालने के कारण, इसे अज नामांतर प्राप्त हुआ । इसने भैरवी को अजातपालेश्वरी कहने लगे [स्कंद.७.१.५८] । इसका पुत्र दीर्घबाहु तथा उसका पुत्र द्शरथ [पद्म.सृ.८]
अज II. n.  प्रतिहर्ता को स्तुती से उत्पन्न दो पुत्रां में से ज्येष्ठ पुत्र । इसका भाई भूमन् [भा.५.१५.५] ।
अज III. n.  (सू.निमि.) ऊर्ध्वकेतु जनक का पुत्र तथा पुरुजित् जनक का पिता ।
अज IV. n.  (सो. पुरुरवस्.) विजयकुल में बलाकाश्व राजा का पुत्र । इसका पुत्र कुश अथवा कुशिक ।

aja a S Unborn, uncreate. Used of God. Ex. अज अजित पूर्ण अनाम ॥ Uncreate, sovereign lord, who knoweth his name? Ex. मी अज अजित सर्वेश्र्वर ॥ मीच नटलों चराचर ॥ In these examples अजित has the force of Haud ulli secundus. See phrase under अजित.
; i. e. not to be at all, to be wanting utterly. Ex. अजीं डब्बी नाहीं तपकीर कोण्हीकडे पाहवी. अजी बाद or त-करणें. अजीं वजा करणें To deduct from the अज or gross total. Hence, अजीं & अजी- बाद with neg. con. come to signify, None or not at all; and to be used sometimes in the other senses of अगदीं q. v. Moreover अजीबाद, further corrupted into अजाबाद, will be used in almost all the senses given under अचानक. The acceptations and uses of words introduced from the Arabic, Persian, and Hindustání are absolutely lawless. अजीं वजा करणें further expresses an ordinary mode of peculation;--to abstract from the अज or gross amount before bringing it to account by तफशील or detail.
