होम  m.  m. the act of making an oblation to the देवs or gods by casting clarified butter into the fire (See देव-यज्ञ and, [IW. 245]), oblation with fire, burnt-offering, any oblation or sacrifice ( अयुत-ह्°, ‘a sacrifice of 10,000 burnt-offerings to the planets’), [AV.]; &c.

   Offering oblations to gods by throwing ghee into the consecrated fire, (one of the five daily Yajñas, to be performed by a Brāhmaṇa, called देवयज्ञ q. v.); इष्टिर्यागः । स एवासेचनाधिको होमः ŚB. on [MS.6.8.7.]
   A burnt offering.
